Books I didn’t like that critics made me read

(Some random, late-night thoughts for nominations for this list. I’d love to hear your own.)

Everything Ravaged Everything Burned (Wells Tower)

Room (Emma Donoghue)

The Leopard (Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa)

What I Loved (Siri Husvedt)

Freedom (Jonathan Franzen)

… and the #1 for this: The Finkler Question (Howard Jacobson) – possibly the worst book I have ever read, and certainly the worst book that is supposed to be good that I have ever read.

  1. Saw a great forward quote in a some book I have stacked around here somewhere…”No matter what the critics say, this book isn’t that bad.” Always loved that. Thanks for a list of “to avoids” so I can carry on without too much despair.
